Pi d'en Xandri

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Pi d'en Xandri is one of the oldest pines in Catalonia and an ecological, cultural and historical symbol of Sant Cugat. It is estimated that he was born around the year 1774, at the time of Mozart, Kant and Napoleon Bonaparte, now about 248 years ago.

It is a stone pine (pinus pinea) and is located in the Torre Negra rural park. It has a considerable height -23 meters- and a trunk of 3.20 meters in diameter. Its crown is 21 meters wide and has a peculiar shape, like a parasol, with a wayward, half-naked branch. The Pi d'en Xandri lost part of its branches due to the snow that accumulated on Christmas night in the year 62, when a formidable snowfall covered Catalonia in white. In 1997 some vandals tried to saw it off and set it on fire. It was necessary to graft a piece of live trunk so that the sap could circulate again and it was held with the trunks that surround it today to facilitate its healing.

Masia de Can Borrell

Highlight • Restaurant

THE FARMHOUSE OF CAN BORRELL

The first historical references of human settlements in the place where Can Borrell is located today, take us back many centuries. Hau appointments that speak of finds of fragments of Iberian and Roman pottery in the surroundings.

Due to its location on the old road from Sant Cugat to Barcelona and a place of passage to Sant Medir, the farmhouse became an obligatory stopping place, first for the peasants of the region who brought their products to the capital, and later for hikers. and pilgrims from Sant Medir. On the day of this celebration, the house opened its front and back doors and became one more part of the road. On the way back, there was a dance and the last sardana del Aplec was danced. Until recently, the last dance of the festival was still held here.

The passage of hikers and other people meant that they began to serve lunch and drinks and, in view of its success, it became the restaurant that it is today.

Expiatory Temple of the Sacred Heart

Highlight • Religious Site

The visit to the temple, both the crypt and the church, is free. But if you want to enjoy the fantastic views from the top, you need to get on the lift and then climb a few more steps. Certainly one of the more charming places in the city - the best view over Barcelona!

Expiatory Church of the Sacred Heart

Highlight • Religious Site

Mythical ascent to the Tibidabo amusement park located at the top of the city. It has different slopes to reach it and there is the possibility of doing several loops to stretch the route more or less. There are very good views from the top and it does not take a great hardness to reach the top. Totally recommended!
