Brienz is on the Brünigbahn narrow-gauge railway line, which connects Interlaken, Brienz, Meiringen, Brünig, Lucerne and Engelberg. And in Brienz, the boat courses from Interlaken also end, e.g. with the historic saloon paddle steamer "Lötschberg", which - carefully restored - represents the ideal complement to the steam journey up the Rothorn. Incidentally, a steam train also runs on the Brünigbahn route on selected dates.
Walks along the traffic-free Brienz lake promenade, past small boat harbors and playgrounds, are popular. In summer, locals and guests alike come together to have a swim at the lake shore. The view over the lake with the constantly changing moods, the steep bank opposite and the Giessbach waterfall is worthwhile.
In the nearby Ballenberg open-air museum, a look into the kitchens, chambers, living rooms and workshops of the authentically built houses and courtyards of rural Switzerland from the 16th to 19th centuries proves that this is not a dusty collection of rarities, but that experiences are guaranteed.
