Lourdes Grotto at Rammenfels

Highlight • Religious Site

In 1948, the Lourdesgrotte on Rammenfels was inaugurated by Pastor Moog from elections. The Mariengrotte was donated and built by the sculptor Josef Thielen from Niederlosheim, who thus redeemed a vow for the cure of a serious illness. This place at the foot of the Schallenberg, where the path to a square rounds and left a gigantic rock wall wave-like rises to different heights, has now become a local place of pilgrimage.

The jasper pits part 1

In the list of geologists, the Nunkircher jasper, called "agate" by the locals, is listed as "lapis", a mixture of ultramarine with calcite and silicates. The jasper is not translucent like agate, topaz or amethyst. Therefore it is only considered a semi-precious stone, which, however, comes close to the precious stones due to the shimmer of the quartz grains and is also set into pieces of jewelry like these. The stone came on the market as "German Lapis" or "Swiss Lapis" as an imitation of lapis lazuli and was made into necklaces, cabochons, ring stones or cufflinks. Ashtrays were also made by individual grinders. The jasper seam in the Nunkircher Bann on the Auschet represents only a small part of the total occurrence in the Saar-Nahe mountainous region from Idar-Oberstein an der Nahe down to Weisel and Füsselberg near Oberkirchen and Freisen. For those who look gray and white in their natural state Nunkircher jasper, the treatment with chemicals was the hour of birth of a brilliant career: about 125 years ago it was given an appealing blue color by blood lye salt. This guaranteed a future for this stone in the circle of precious stones. The Nunkircher jasper pit is located in the "Wingert" and is recorded in the cadastre with the names "Auf Bambusch" and "Auf Bambusch Toad". The entire area was divided into the ownership of the precious stone grinding shop W. Constantin Wild & Co., Idar-Oberstein, and the Finkler / Kraus families. Where a few years ago there was still activity twice a year, today the silence under the trees is only occasionally interrupted by the careful knocking of small hammers: stone collectors are looking for rarities. In places where there was once large-scale mining, tunnel mouth holes sometimes yawn out of the mountain. Some of them have also been granted.

There are so many beautiful trails at Lückner, and I don't know all of them.
I need to go there more often.
