View of the River Derwent in Shining Cliff Woods

Highlight • Viewpoint

Shining Cliff Woods is a great area for walking (and for mountain biking although that is not officially allowed!) but be aware that the map of the area suggests that people can walk along the west of the River Derwent to Whatstandwell and then access the train or buses. However, the caravan site (Haytop) just south of Whatstandwell is not at all welcoming and there are massive gates / fences / CCTV / Keep Out signs. You may find you either have to climb a steep hill to reach New Road or return back to Ambergate.

Homesford Cottage Tearoom

Highlight • Cafe

My favourite tearoom in Derbyshire! The best food, cake and service. Highly recommend anyone to drop in mid-ride for some refuelling. It is great vegetarian and vegan options also.
During lockdown they are open Friday to Sunday 10-4. Hopefully they'll be back to normal hours in December, always worth checking their Facebook for updates and they are also very quick to respond.

Cromford Mill

Highlight • Historical Site

Cromford Mill was the world’s first successful water powered cotton spinning mill. It was built in 1771 by Sir Richard Arkwright.

High Peak Junction

Highlight • Historical Site

High Peak Junction was where the Old Comford and High Peak railway met the Cromford Canal. It is now a great spot to take a break with a shop that sells hot drinks and snacks.
