The stormwater retention basin and the Emscher meadows are wonderful for both humans and animals.

There's always plenty of birdwatching to be seen there, and the trails are perfect for cycling and hiking.

A really nice section on the Dortmund-Ems-Kanal for cycling. Varied, great to drive, with many places where sometimes great break in the sun can do.

Today last tour through our beautiful Pott along the canal before Christmas Eve, soaking up some more sun and with a heavy downpour at the end

I have now set this route as my standard fitness route.
It leads along the Emscher Weg to the Dortmund harbor, shortly before that I turn off to the Dortmund-Ems Canal.
I then cycle along this to the Henrichenburg lifting station, then change to the Rhein-Herne Canal until I "jump over the Emscher."
There I "jump" over, continue along the …

First tour after a knee setback.
Great easy tour. Invites you to cycle along. The Emscher meadows are worth seeing.

Attention: The Emscher cycle path is closed from Ickerner Straße to the flood retention basin due to construction work.

Start was at Emscherland in Castrop-Rauxel. Then it went along the Emscherweg to just before Dortmund center and over the city harbor, Fredenbaumpark, Dortmund-Ems Canal and the ship lift back to the start.
Great tour and the best weather for photography, unfortunately interrupted by heavy rain, which we were fortunately able to sit out in a shelter in Fredenbaumpark.

It was another very nice tour, along the canal, to Henrichenburg, back along the Emscher, in glorious weather. Unfortunately, there are still a few construction sites and closures, with poorly signposted diversions, but apart from that, a very nice tour with lots of nature and hardly any roads.

You can skip the Dortmund harbor. It's really terrible.

Showing Translation

Gravel route, very dusty in summer,
nothing for road bike tires
