Hainewalde Moated Castle

Highlight • Castle

The impressive baroque palace Hainewalde is apparently deserted in the large garden. In fact, the castle has been renovated piece by piece by a home club for several years. All repairs are financed exclusively with donations and all employees work as volunteers.

The moated castle is the remaining gatehouse of the old Renaissance moated castle right next to the new castle, a moated castle, probably built between 1200 and 1250, first mentioned in 1383 as a knight's seat, owned by Nicolaus diclus de Warnsdorf in 1392, rebuilt in the Renaissance style by Christoph v. Nostitz in 1564. The "old castle" was largely demolished around 1780 and the remains used to build the new castle.
The moated castle is now privately owned and has been lovingly restored. On Open Monument Day, the owners occasionally allow glimpses. The gatehouse is beautifully reflected in the water.

Karasek Cave

Highlight • Natural Monument

The weathered rock giant White stone is made of bright quartzite and thus differs significantly from the color of the black stone, a few minutes walk from here. The robber captain Johannes Karasek met here with his cronies and should, according to legend, in the cracks and caves of the stone have hidden his treasure.

Hainewalde Church

Highlight • Religious Site

Today's church in Hainewalde is probably the third church building in the town. According to legend, a pilgrimage church was built at the entrance to the Roschertal in the 13th century. The second church was a parish church made of wood, of which only a golden chalice from 1657 and two wide armchairs have survived. All of the interior furnishings are in their original condition from the beginning of the 18th century. This gives the church a special cultural and art-historical value.
Also of interest are the former hospital next to the church with the vows above the door and the church school, which also has an inscription above the door that is still easy to read.

Kanitz-Kyaw Mausoleum

Highlight • Monument

The crypt is located on the church cemeteries in Hainewalde. It is built in Baroque style and is decorated with very beautiful statues. Particularly interesting is the statue of death as a semi-recaptured corpse with crown and scepter and the inscription "Next Ultima reum Linea" (This is the extreme limit of things.)
