Bécourt British Military Cemetery

Highlight • Historical Site

The British Military Cemetery, located west of Bécourt Wood, contains 713 bodies: 607 British, 31 Canadian—most of whom were artillerymen—72 Australian, and 3 South African.
It was built in August 1915 by the 51st Highland Division and used until the Battle of the Somme in 1916 by other units in the line, including the 18th Division. After that, only the field ambulances established nearby would bury a few more bodies until April 1917.
In August 1918, after the village was captured, the returning 18th Division buried more of its men here. Their graves are located off to a higher ground. At the end of the war, three Germans buried in this cemetery would be moved.

Tyneside Monument

Gibraltar Blockhouse Ruins

Thiepval Memorial
