Large flocks of starlings can be seen in late summer after riding under the bridge. The bridge offers great views along Bideford Quay and on the Torridge Bridge.

Bideford Railway Heritage Centre

Highlight • Historical Site

Bideford Railway Heritage Centre manages the Bideford station site and Instow signal box, both of which are on the former railway line from Barnstaple to Bideford in north Devon. The old railway line is now part of the popular Tarka Trail and follows the South West Coast Path.

The roving bridge used to carry the driveway to Beam House, and was used by horses to cross over the canal to the towpath on the other side without unhitching. The bridge underwent restoration in 2000 by Lord Clinton.

Covering 180 miles (290 km) through Devon, the Tarka Trail is one of the longest traffic-free bike paths in the UK. There's a lot more to it than just this section. The route leads through stunning and diverse scenery, from white beaches to green countryside and impressive sea cliffs.
