House of Guests and Citizens Rechlin

Highlight • Rest Area

The history of Rechlin is closely linked to aviation. In 1916, the aviation testing and training institute was built here. After the end of the First World War, the existing facilities were dismantled. In the mid-1930s, as the Wehrmacht was rearming, the area became the Rechlin test site for the German Air Force, which tested new aircraft, bombs and technical equipment there.

At the end of the Second World War, Soviet troops were stationed on the site of the Rechlin Air Force Test Center and the area was surrounded by a wall. Officially, Rechliners were not allowed to enter this part. After the troops withdrew, part of the area became a forest settlement. The former officers' houses at the testing center became single-family and semi-detached houses. see Wikipedia
When we stopped in Rechlin for a day on our Müritz tour, we were fascinated by how traces of this history can still be found in many places in the town today.

Former Soviet officers' mess

Highlight • Historical Site

At the entrance to Rechlin on Müritzstraße stands this striking, abandoned building – the former Soviet officers' mess, also known as "Casino Rechlin." Built in the 1950s in the neoclassical style, it once served as a cultural center, cinema, and meeting place for Soviet air force units stationed in Rechlin until 1993. Since the withdrawal of troops, the building has stood empty and is rapidly deteriorating, but is still protected as a historical monument. With its monumental columned portal and largely untouched ruin aesthetic, it particularly attracts photographers and those interested in lost places. Although the building is not accessible from the outside, it is clearly visible from the outside and a striking witness to Rechlin's military history. In the surrounding area, there are other relics from this period, such as empty officers' quarters and barracks, which also tell a piece of German-Soviet post-war history.

Historic Cargo Barge at Claassee

Highlight • Monument

I found the cycle path section in the Rechlin area to be very poorly designed.
Although it leads past Rechlin in a very beautiful landscape, this is also a hindrance when it comes to, for example, a cup of coffee.
Apart from the marina there is nothing culinary on offer.
It's a shame actually

Hafendorf Müritz

Highlight • Settlement

Holidays on land and on the water very close. This is how you could describe a holiday in the port village of Müritz. Located directly on the southeast bank of the Müritz, the harbor village is the perfect country seat for seafarers.
The sheltered marina offers every service for boat and crew, the neighboring shipyard will also help with tricky problems and we are also easy to reach by land with the national park bus and our own Sixt branch.
You can live in one of our holiday apartments, in one of the newly built Marina Müritz Apartments, in the holiday park or of course on the boat. Come by on your own keel or book a houseboat for overnight stays only.
When boat and bed are taken care of, tuck into the Captain's Inn harborside restaurant, or head to our Pirate's Bar for a sundowner with a view of the boat. Between deckchairs and white sand, every day of the cruise ends in a relaxed way.

Rechliner Mauer Memorial

Highlight • Historical Site

This wall, which has a total length of around 2.5 km and was initially built as a wooden wall in the early 1950s, divided the town of Rechlin into the "Russian sector" and the southern German part for more than 40 years, in which, however, infrastructure facilities were almost completely lacking.
