What to expect on Mount Ascension loop from Helena

The journey on the Mount Ascension loop starts along a densely wooded slope, offering a cool, shaded beginning. As you cross the Mount Ascension Ridge and move onto the south-facing side, the trail opens up, revealing lazy switchbacks across an open hillside. You'll pass through rolling foothills and open meadows dotted with native pine and fir trees, occasionally encountering rock face features.
