Nice to meet the Scottish Highlanders like this. You can quickly find them on the basis of the fresh heaps of droppings.

Historic site

Highlight • Historical Site

The Mookerheide is a forest and heathland area east of Mook in the municipality of Mook en Middelaar in the north of the Dutch province of Limburg. The heathland and the surrounding area around Mook were the scene of warfare during both the Eighty Years' War and the Second World War. The fighting resulted in many casualties. The nature reserve has been managed by Natuurmonumenten since 1985.
The battle did not actually take place near what is now the largest remaining heathland area near Bisselt, but on the north side of the village center of Mook, between the Maas river and the Bovensteweg. Several thousand Dutch soldiers were killed. Many of those who fled south perished in the marshlands south of Mook. Near Molenhoek, the Heumense Schans defensive structure can still be seen in the landscape.

January 19, 2023,De Twee Schansen wandeling op de Mookerheide...
Finally a walk in dry weather and sunshine. It didn't go without a hit or a hit, but together with Tilly I still had a lovely walk. An area worth repeating... You can read my report at riannes.blog/2023/01/20/twee-schansen-wandel

Highly recommended terrain and tour. Everything a forest has to offer can be found here. Including a castle with a hotel and restaurant (though I haven't tried it yet).
Simply beautiful and highly recommended.
So what are you waiting for? 😁

A wonderful route ❤️ Very varied! There are so many great paths... Whether you prefer paved trails or trails... there is something for everyone here. If you're really brave, you can get very close to Scottish highland cattle, which are in a specially fenced area.

Today we parked our car at Café het Zwaantje on the provincial border of Gelderland and Limburg. It's a beautiful area for walking. Because we walk there often, I planned a different route than usual this time. And I have to say, it turned out well. We came across lovely paths and roads with few walkers, which we appreciate even …
