Near-natural Kraichgau landscape with characteristic Keuper marl slopes, ravines, ledges and spring-rich floodplains as a habitat for a large number of different communities of flora and fauna.
There are several ravines in the nature reserve (e.g. Gallows Cave). The floodplain of the Kleiner Kraichbach is plentifully supplied with water, which emerges from several spring horizons on both sides of the valley.
The nature reserve is essentially limited in the south by the foot of the slope of the Mausberg and the adjoining vineyards in the area of the "Blinden" and "Fuchsloch" mounds, in the west by the edge of the community forest of District I Langer Wald, in the east by the community forest of District III Streit- and Pfannwald, in the north by the local road from Oberöwisheim to Odenheim.
