At 1,732 feet (528m), this historic Inn is the highest in Great Britain!

On the border of Cumbria and the Yorkshire Dales near the village of Keld, the pub is a lively and welcoming place frequented by cyclists, walkers, tourists and locals alike, and puts on many events including live music and festivals.

As well as the great food, you'll find rooms and camping available here.

Tan Hill Road Climb

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

Just when you thought that the switchbacks at West Stonesdale were the hard bit of the climb to the pub, you hit this.

A gradual drag leads to a bend right. The road kicks up & starts to bite. It's not long, but it keeps getting steeper & steeper. Lurch over this & your path to the pub is all but done.

West Stonesdale Hairpin Bends

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

A sequence of steep hairpins arising out of Swaledale towards Tan Hill. Light the blue touch paper & get to the top before your legs explode!

Descending, keep a sharp eye for ascending traffic. Cars can ‘hide’ beneath you. You don’t want to meet them on the steepest, blind section (like I did…😳)

Lamps Moss Climb

Highlight • Viewpoint

One of the famous 100 Climbs - this beauty is steep at the bottom, then gradual and then savage for 100m at the end. Great descent off the other side heading on toward Buttertubs and the heart of the Dales
