Tree-Lined Pathway Along the Main River

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Actually just a "footpath". But if you as a biker give priority to pedestrians and are friendly, there are no problems... (mutual consideration 🙂)

Volkach Town Hall

Highlight • Monument

The former administrative buildings are spread throughout the old town. Only the town hall at the front of the market square is still used by the city administration today. A town hall in Volkach has been documented since 1484, but it did not exist on the current site. Construction of the current building began in 1544. The town hall has undergone several renovations, including the addition of a double staircase in 1610. In the 20th century, it was also used as a school; today, it houses the town administration and the administrative community.

The architecture is influenced by the Renaissance. The town hall has three floors and a steep gable roof. A double flight of open staircase is above the pointed arched gateway. A half-timbered bay window crowns the building. At the rear, there is a stair tower. A major renovation in 1972 transformed the building and adapted it to the needs of the administration. The interior contains several oil paintings. Official portraits of the Würzburg prince-bishops can be found here.

The history of the church is closely linked to that of the town of Volkach. It is the largest building in the town. The Catholic community continues to shape life in the small Franconian town to this day.

The area around the church is one of the settlement cores of the town. A church building dedicated to St. George has been documented as early as the 12th century. However, this chapel was not the parish church of the place. This was located on the nearby Kirchberg with the pilgrimage church Maria im Weingarten. In 1335, the early mass was endowed for the first time in the town church.[1] The 14th century brought the elevation to a parish church. .....

It's a very beautiful area: along the Main River, the vineyards, and lovely villages. The weather could have been five degrees warmer. A quick detour to the Stammheim Museum rounded off the trip – it was right on the way. Otherwise, I had what were probably the most delicious Franconian bratwursts in the Hinterhöfle (spicy and not too salty) in …

The idea was flat today, but then it should also be the vineyards🤔. The community had something there too, thanks for that. The modifications were not always "optimal", but were almost always fun😉. The way out of 🐖furt wasn't always clear, but the rest of the way went very well. Even if it "only" went down (= relatively) on one …
