Kapellenberg Ring Wall (Hofheim)

Here lies the northern boundary of the circular wall from the Michelsberg Culture period. This section in the north and on the eastern slope is the best preserved, and the walls are clearly visible. From here, the circular wall enclosed the entire ridge of the Kapellenberg to the south. However, it is barely visible at the southern end and on the western slope. On the way to the Master's Tower, you also pass small burial mounds, although these are no longer clearly visible. Archaeological investigations have been conducted repeatedly for more than 10 years, with the result that the Kapellenberg is one of the most important archaeological monuments of the Michelsberg Culture, i.e., it is approximately 6,000 years old.

Addendum 17.12.2022: A newly created archaeological trail provides access to almost the entire ring wall complex on the Kapellenberg, including the other sights (Master's Tower, Mountain Chapel, pine forest with the Roman Tower site, Grey Stone, old well houses, Cohausen Temple, game reserve, and Königstein Cross).

Addendum 09.05.2025: I noticed an error in my old text! The western wall is recognizable in its northern section. The archaeological trail runs along a path that pierces this clearly visible section of the wall. It is marked with a small information panel.

From this tower you have a fantastic view over the Rhine-Main plain. In clear weather you can see as far as Darmstadt and further.
Climbing the tower is not for everyone. The landings are all covered in gratings, and when you walk up the tower starts to sway slightly. You notice it even more at the top of the platform. We like that :-).
