Plateau de Bellevue

Highlight • Other

As its name suggests, the Bellevue plateau offers an exceptional panorama of the Cirque de Gavarnie and its huge 422-metre waterfall. Its historic paths have been shaped by herdsmen on transhumance as well as merchants and smugglers who transited between France and Spain.

View of the Gavarnie cirque

Highlight • Viewpoint

From the western ledge of the circus, it is possible to enjoy breathtaking views of this border massif. You will hardly see the Brèche de Roland from this side, but the most spectacular waterfalls of the circus are available to you without concession.

The bridge was replaced. Although quite simple and without railings, it was absolutely stable.

Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, the Cirque de Gavarnie is located in the heart of the Pyrenees National Park. Of glacial origin, it is home to the largest waterfall in Europe, with a height of 422 meters. Its large limestone walls and peaks over 3,000 meters mark the border with Spain.

In the middle of the Cirque de Gavarnie we find the great waterfall, which with its 423 meter drop is considered the highest in Europe.

Enjoy it because it is something unique.

The parking lot costs 7€ for us, mobile homes are more expensive. We don't hike on the main route, but to the right of it and back. There is not quite as much going on here as on the Mittelweg, you can see that again and again from above.
Just before the Cirque de Gavarnie you should cross the watercourse. …
