Community Weißenohe

Highlight • Religious Site

The remains of a baroque monastery complex in the center of Weißenohe can be seen from afar. The monastery church of St. Bonifatius towers over the place with its 45 m high tower.
The monastery can look back on an eventful history. Due to its geographical location - Weißenohe and its monastery belonged to the "Upper Palatinate" for almost its entire 750-year existence - it protruded like a foreign body into the area of the "Free Imperial City of Nuremberg". At times it was even completely separated from the Upper Palatinate. Nuremberg therefore left no stone unturned in asserting its mostly unjustified claims over the centuries. The clergy, especially the Bishop of Bamberg, tried again and again to assert their influence, also in a worldly respect.
In 1692 the construction of today's monastery church began. The plans come from Wolfgang Dietzenhofer (1648 - 1706), a member of the famous Upper Bavarian master builder family. On Bonifatiustag in 1707 the church was solemnly consecrated by the Bamberg Auxiliary Bishop Johann Werner Schnatz.

Own self-service milk dispenser, where you can buy raw milk (per liter 1€, glass bottles next to it also for 1€) and a machine for cheese. You can also buy hay and straw in sacks from their own cultivation. The animals are housed in the pen with a view.

Lillach Tufa Terraces

Highlight • Waterfall

Really a highlight that is second to none. The path along the Lillach has a few steps (therefore it is only partially suitable for prams), but it is well developed and has several rest areas where you can enjoy the wonderful nature in peace. On weekends, however, there is quite a lot of hiking traffic. I recommend the hike after rain or in spring, when there is a lot of water and the creek is not overgrown.

Lillach Spring

Highlight • Natural

The Lillach has a lot to offer, not only the sinter terraces, but also a real spring. The spring water flows beautifully from under a stone and across the path. Fantastic playground for children and a picnic area for all weary hikers. However, don't expect to be alone here. This hiking trail is too well known.

Gräfenberg Old Town

Highlight • Historical Site

A beautiful place with neat, painted houses, a café, a fountain and a lot of history! A few panels explain what happened here in 1866 and that Graefenberg received town charter before 1400. A painting is over 500 years old.

The five Siedla trail begins at the train station in Weißenohe. On weekends, you come from here to Nuremberg every hour (R21). The Trubach Valley Express also stops in Weißenohe on Sundays and public holidays from May to November. You can check the current timetable here: vgn.de.
