There are a couple of cafes with seats outside ... For a break in between ... And just watch the hustle and bustle of the city.

Misericórdia Church in Évora

Highlight • Religious Site

The history of this beautiful church dates back to 1554, when it was built in the Mannerist style. However, the interior was remodeled in the Baroque style at the beginning of the 18th century, when the decorative tiles were added and the gilded wood carvings by the master João Correia were created. The tiles represent the seven spiritual works of mercy (instructing the ignorant, advising the doubtful, admonishing sinners, bearing patiently with those who wrong us, forgiving insults, consoling the suffering and praying for the living and the dead), while the paintings represent the seven corporal works of mercy (feeding the hungry, giving water to the thirsty, clothing the naked, sheltering the homeless, visiting the sick, visiting or ransomed prisoners and burying the dead). The imposing altarpiece is one of the most magnificent of the Baroque period in Portugal, with twisted columns decorated with tendrils and sculptural elements such as putti and angels that refer to heavenly paradise.

Évora City Hall

Highlight • Monument

The Évora City Hall building is an old palace. It was once a noble residence with a large courtyard at the entrance, a fountain, a granite staircase, a coach house and stable, a barn, a cellar, a garden, and a Moorish gate tower. The apartments were located on the upper floor.

Rua Nova Water Tank

Highlight • Monument

Architectural and sculptural work from the mid-16th century. It is part of the Água de Prata aqueduct, which crosses the city.
A monument with very simple lines that proves its more utilitarian rather than aesthetic function. Its Tuscan-style columns have very simple and poorly decorated capitals.
The Rua Nova water tank is an integral part of the historic center of Évora and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Roman Temple of Évora

Highlight • Historical Site

This Roman temple was built in the first century AD. For a long time it was thought to be dedicated to the goddess Diana. Today it is fairly certain that it was built as a sign of conquest.
