Since the reopening in 2007, the Old Synagogue Hagenow is part of the museum of the Jewish community existing at that time.
The surviving community buildings, consisting of synagogue, schoolhouse and car showers, are unique in Mecklenburg. The building remained intact after the destruction of the interior of the synagogue on the night of the Pogrom in 1938 and was extensively restored between 2004 and 2009.
In the front building, the current Hanna-Opinions-Haus, since November 9, 2010, the permanent exhibition "traces of Jewish life in Hagenow and West Mecklenburg" can be seen. The Old Synagogue serves a variety of cultural purposes and special exhibitions.
