Very quiet, hiking trail always goes along the shore.

The drainage created wet meadows and is mowed in late summer. This species-rich biotope can be preserved with this gentle use. In addition to numerous spiders, dragonflies and beetles, this wet meadow also offers ideal conditions for butterflies.

Polzow Canal

Highlight • River

The canal was built between 1745 and 1750 along the course of existing natural channels. In particular, the Große Stechlinsee was connected to the Nehmitzsee via the Kleiner Stechlinsee and the Gerlinsee. The one in turn with the Roofensee. The canal was 24 feet wide (about 8 m) and from 1746 supplied Berlin with wood from the Menzer Heide. As early as 1786, the maintenance of the hydraulic structures was stopped because there was no more usable wood to cut in the forests around the canal.

Nice, varied tour along the Roofensee in Menz. Those who like it a little more extensive, like us, can walk along the moor nature trail at the end of the lake.

Attention: Komoot has (at least for me) problems at the moment in placing the photos in the right places on the map. I.e. the locations of the photos are …

This is a really great hike and very well signposted.
5 stations on the moors offer great information about the moor, also suitable for children; I was really impressed.
Tip 1
Download the tour for offline navigation - there is no network coverage for about 3-4 km...
Tip 2
Depending on the time of year - MOSQUITO PROTECTION!

Beautiful hike in winter around the Roofensee. Best weather and great landscape, only there was nothing to eat again. The only restaurant on the way, the Waldschänke, unfortunately didn't want to see us despite the empty tables. Well, as the saying goes: "Pack your food, we're going to Brandenburg!" 🤣

A beautiful route from the Stechlin Nature Park House.
I have done this route several times and at different times of the year and it is always beautiful.
And since it was still quite warm today, you could take off your clothes in quite a few places and jump into the already quite cold lake.
