Confluence of the Ohm at Cölber Eck

Highlight • River

The Ohm has its source in the Hohen Vogelsberg and almost 60 kilometers later it meets the still young Lahn here at the Cölber Eck. Not only two rivers, but also completely different landscapes such as Burgwald, Amöneburg Basin and Marburg Lahntal meet here. Around the turn of the millennium, far-reaching redesigns were carried out as renaturation measures in the estuary area. Today, the Cölber Eck is a popular habitat for various bird species such as the little ringed plover.

Hainmühle on the Ohm River

Highlight • Monument

An old watermill on the Ohm, which has been here for several centuries and only stopped operating in the 1960s. However, the old turbine system has been renovated in recent years and is now used to generate electricity. The long history has not harmed the building, it is still very beautiful to look at.

Former Ernsthausen-Wambach Station

Highlight • Historical Site

This used to be a stopping point on the railway line from Kirchhain to Gemünden/Wohra, always next to the small river Wohra, hence the name Wohratalbahn. After the Gemünden/Wohra train station, this then merged into the Kellerwaldbahn, which led to Zimmersrode. Zimmersrode is on the main Kassel-Marburg railway (Main-Weser Railway), and then continues via Gießen to Frankfurt/Main. The stopping point was prepared by the “Active Storks” association from Ernsthausen and is lovingly maintained by them. Unfortunately, rail traffic on this route was discontinued in the 1980s.
Another note, the HP Wambach was not a train station, just a stopping point!

Frankenberg Town Hall

Highlight • Monument

The town hall of Frankenberg is an impressive building: lots of half-timbering, lots of slate and a total of ten towers! It was built in the 16th century and then underwent some structural changes. This is how the slate was put in place to protect the underlying framework.

Every Saturday from 8.30 a.m. to 12 p.m. the weekly market of the country women takes place in front of the town hall.

August 24, 2021,Oberrosphe - Sarnau - Frankenberg - Kirchhain - Coelbe - Sarnau - Oberrosphe
The ascent to Bottendorf towards Willersdorf on a totally furrowed gravel path is totally unworthy of a Hessian long-distance cycle path (R6).
