Bench With a View

Highlight • Viewpoint

5

This steep chalk hill within Pegsdon Hills Nature Reserve offers one of the best views in the county. There is free parking south of Barton Road (B655).

For the best light condition I would suggest to get here from 12 pm to the rest of the day. The path is not too hard but tent to decline on one side facing the valley.

Deacon Hill summit

Highlight • Natural Monument

Deacon Hill (172m), from which there are stunning views in essentially any direction (as long as you don't stare at your boots) is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (the summit area is rich in plant species, and there are birds here such as buzzards and numerous species of butterflies, too).

There is a bench to sit on as well. The hill is a gorgeous place to be and marvel at the beauty of the world.

View of Knocking Hoe

Highlight • Natural

As you traverse the wilds of Barton hills, listen carefully for the sound of fresh water, bubbling from the spring at the foot of the hills. A remarkable thing to behold. We've not tried drinking it yet, but let us know if you're brave enough!

December 4, 2022,In search of Plum Pudding #EnjoyWinterOutside
When i walked this, i went up Bonfire Knoll hill and missed Plum Pudding! Dont make my mistake, follow the ridge onto the pudding top where noted on one of the pictures. (Its all lovely anyway)
Our Rating: 8/10 (Beautiful, sunny weather, undulating glacial hills, little sign of wildlife except for a few sheep + goats + 3 red kites, excellent cider at The Raven pub)
Our Rating: 9/10 (a springtime favourite - glacial hills, horses, blossoms and greenery everywhere, and a turkey called "Tommy" in Hexton nearby The Raven pub)
Our Rating: 8.5/10 (rolling hills with magnificent views, nature reserve, old growth trees, fresh water spring, a test for endurance!)
