Dahmeshöved Lighthouse

Highlight • Monument

Nice lighthouse between Dahme and Kellenhusen. Can be approached either on a walk or a bike ride.

The Dahmeshöved lighthouse stands on a coastal promontory about halfway between Fehmarn and Travemünde.

The octagonal tower was built entirely from bricks in 1878 and 1879. It is 28.8 meters high, which means that the beacon is 33.7 meters above sea level.

The neighboring smaller brick tower was built in 1939 to give the lighthouse keeper an opportunity to monitor the visibility.

During the German-German division, the Dahmeshöved lighthouse had a special meaning for the GDR citizens, because it was a point of reference when escaping across the Baltic Sea as the so-called "light of freedom".

Those who are more interested in the lighthouse can also visit it with an expert guide. The opening times - in the season from April to October - are: Sunday to Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. every half hour.

July 27, 2024,Kellenhusen - Weg weg 😱
On the way to the ice control in Kellenhusen we discovered that the Baltic Sea coastal path was not only damaged but simply gone😱
I don't think it's worth rebuilding it... which is a shame, because the view of the coast from there was always wonderful😩

We wanted to cycle to Fehmarn, but that didn't happen. Since we had a tandem bike with us, we changed our destination. To Kellenhusen and back

Overall, a nice tour - based on a Komoot suggestion.
Unfortunately, parts of the route designated as cycle paths were not passable because last October (2023) the storm destroyed paths closer to the coastline.
A section of the path (steep coast between Süssau and Kraksdorf) was on the edge of a farmer's private field, who is certainly not amused by …

I can't recommend the route as I rode it. The cycle path ends in Kraksdorf-Strand behind the campsite and then ends in a private road. The cliffs there are really beautiful, but I felt like I rode over four campsites!

The tour was a total of 76 km long, the cell phone battery ran out and could no longer record 🙄

Showing Translation

Nice tour, but the cliffs are no longer recommended. You should avoid them.

Showing Translation

Great tour on the water and over land, on large areas of arable land, mountain on mountain, from simply everything. Heiligenhafen is beautiful and definitely a stop.
