From the promenade you have a beautiful view of the Aasee. Eye-catchers on the meadow are the "Giant Pool Balls" by Claes Oldenburg from 1977, a work within the scope of the Skulptur Projekte Münster: skulptur-projekte-archiv.de/de-de/1977/projects 23 /

Historical background
The monument refers to the period 1717-1919, the period of the regiment's existence, and honors the fallen members of the regiment.

About the regiment's history:
July 17, 1717: Founding of the Dragoon Regiment; successor: Cuirassier Regiment No. 4
from January 27, 1889: Cuirassier Regiment von Driesen (Westphalia) No. 4, named after Georg Wilhelm von Driesen (1700-1758), Royal Prussian. Lieutenant General
Participation in the Silesian Wars (1740-1742, 1744/45), the Seven Years' War (1756-1763) and the Unification Wars of 1864, 1866, 1870/71
Stationed in the barracks ('Reiterkaserne'), Steinfurter Straße
Participation in the First World War; operations in Poland, Russia, France, losses: 209 soldiers
1918: Suppression of the Spartacist uprising in Berlin
18 August 1919: Return to Münster
1919: Transferred to the new Reichswehr as the 2nd Battalion in the Infantry Regiment No. 13
The military importance of the Cuirassiers waned during the First World War, when these horse-mounted units were replaced by tanks. They often included nobles or wealthy citizens who felt closely connected to the values of the Empire. (See Alexandra Bloch-Pfister, The Cuirassier Memorial - An "Altar" for the Mounted Nobility, in: Dies., Michael Bieber, Sabeth Goldemann, Sabine Kittel (eds.), War Memorials in the City of Peace - Münster Memorial Sites? Münster 2018, pp. 45-55, here pp. 47f.)

Even before the Second World War, two cuirassier memorials were erected for the fallen of the 4th Westphalian Cuirassier Regiment. One memorial stood on Neuplatz from 1924. The second, more elaborately designed sandstone memorial, which was erected at the same location as the current one from 1930, was designed by the sculptor Josef Freiherr von Hammerstein from Munich. The attached metal picture plates were removed in 1942 and melted down for war purposes.

When rebuilding his business building (the building next to the current clock location) after the Second World War, master clockmaker Wilhelm Nonhoff wanted to embellish the facade with a world time clock including a carillon. He developed the clock mechanism himself, and the external design was taken over by the architect Heinrich Benteler. The clock was inaugurated on November 26, 1950. However, this was only possible with a trick: an apprentice moved the clock by hand every minute, as the actual mechanism was not (yet) working.

In 1961-63, the clock was moved to its current location in the next building. The tower house and other figures were added.

Pablo Picasso Art Museum Münster

Pablo Picasso Art Museum Münster
kunstmuseum-picasso-muenster.de/index.php?id=6#c232

The Pablo Picasso Art Museum Münster is Germany's only Picasso museum.

It houses the world's most extensive collection of Pablo Picasso lithographs as well as other Picasso holdings in various artistic techniques and from different creative periods.
Large collections of works by his artistic colleagues Georges Braque, Marc Chagall, Joan Miró and Henri Matisse are also among the museum's treasures.

In changing exhibitions, the Picasso Museum highlights the Spaniard's multifaceted work by placing his graphic work in dialogue with painting and sculpture.

The museum's exhibitions dedicated to his artistic companions also explore such cross-references. In the spirit of its namesake, it is a house of constant change that attracts visitors with special exhibitions several times a year.

In 2010, on the occasion of its 10th anniversary, the museum was renamed from the Pablo Picasso Graphic Museum in Münster to the Pablo Picasso Art Museum in Münster.

In spring 2020, the house on Picassoplatz welcomed its 1.5 million visitors.
