The starting point was the small parking lot on Rhumestraße. After a short stretch, we entered the pollarded hornbeam forest.

The eight-hectare contiguous hornbeam forest near Gieboldehausen is a special historical cultural monument and dates back to the era of coppicing. The hornbeams planted there were harvested every 15-18 years at a height of about 2 meters.
