Schwarze Laber River

Highlight • River

I like the original riverbed that has dug its way between the rocky slopes on the right and left.

Sinzing Church

Highlight • Religious Site

If you come from Regensburg under the bridge, you will soon be on a cobblestone pavement.
Be careful when driving through town. Everything is possible here.

One of the most important Danube crossings for cyclists and pedestrians between the city of Regensburg and the municipality of Sinzing. The new steel truss bridge has a usable width of 4 meters and a total length of 244 meters.

A joint project of the City of Regensburg, the municipality of Sinzing, and the Free State of Bavaria, it significantly improves the infrastructure and closes an important gap in the regional cycle path network. The bridge now provides a direct and convenient connection to the Danube Cycle Path, the Schwarze Laber Route, and the Ratisbona Panorama Tour – a benefit for both commuters and recreational cyclists.

Drei-M-Straße (Möhrenstraße)

Highlight • Settlement

It starts on Drei-M-Straße in the middle of the old town, a street that the Street Renaming AG has been campaigning for renaming since the summer of 2020. We see good reasons for this. On the one hand, the term in question, which can currently be read as “carrots”, is an expression from the colonial era that is firmly linked to racist ideas. In addition, there are enough personalities who have not yet been sufficiently recognized and could be properly celebrated by renaming a street. The topic of diversity has so far hardly been reflected in street names. We would therefore be happy if, for example, the impressive Regensburg native May Ayim was remembered here. Our little bike tour begins with her.

May Ayim

May Ayim was born on May 3, 1960 in Hamburg and died on August 9, 1996. She is the daughter of the Ghanaian medical student Emmanuel Ayim and the German Ursula Andler. May Ayim spent the first 1.5 years of her life in a children's home because her father was not allowed to take her to Ghana. She was then adopted by the Opitz family in Münster. Her father visited her with her foster family several times. May Ayim has often faced violence and fear because of her skin color.

She completed her diploma in psychology and education at the University of Regensburg (1986). The Afro-German Mayim published her diploma thesis in the volume “Show Color”. The Regensburg professor refused to publish the work because he said there was no racism in Germany. May Ayim got around this by finding an examiner in Berlin who agreed to publish her work.

In 1984 May Ayim moved to West Berlin. In 1986 she co-founded the “Initiative Black Germans and Blacks in Germany” before completing her training as a speech therapist in 1990. Until 1995 she worked as a lecturer at the Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences, the Free University of Berlin and the Technical University of Berlin. She wrote numerous works in which she dealt, among other things, with discrimination.

Kneitinger Brewery Restaurant

Highlight • Restaurant

A cool Kneitinger beer and a Bavarian refreshment, ideal for a rest stop on your tour. Traditional Bavarian cuisine in a rustic and authentic atmosphere. The Kneitinger brewery and restaurant is a traditional Bavarian brewery and restaurant located on Arnulfsplatz in Regensburg. Its origins date back to 1590, although the actual founding probably dates back to 1530.
