Dreiborn Red Deer Viewing Platform

Highlight • Viewpoint

Dear guest, this highlight is located in the Eifel National Park. To protect sensitive species, there are special rules here: Stay on the paths, keep dogs on a leash, and only cycle/MTB on the designated trails. You can find more information at nationalpark-eifel.de.

🍂 In the autumn months, the red deer is in rut: its impressive courtship (roaring) echoes for miles across the plateau.
🤠 Throughout the rutting season, our rangers will be at the viewing platform to answer your questions with expert knowledge.
ℹ In addition to the usual rules for behaviour in the National Park, special additional rules apply at the viewing platform. If you adhere to them, you will enable yourself and other guests to experience a special natural spectacle – without frightening or disturbing the animals.

👉 Rules of conduct and tips for your visit to the viewing platform:

- Be especially quiet on the platform and on the way there 🤫
- Muted and quiet clothing is advantageous
- Avoid jerky movements
- Never enter the area in front of the platform and do not lean too far out of the viewing window 🚷
- Do not use artificial light sources 🔦
- Dogs are not welcome on the platform (exceptions apply to guide dogs) 🐶
- Do not eat or drink on the platform – this often causes disruptive noises 🥪

Thank you for your understanding! 🦌💚
We wish you a wonderful time in this special protected area!

Monschau is one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. The small town is located near the border with Belgium and is best known for its medieval town center. The half-timbered houses lining the River Rur (not to be confused with the Ruhr) have already served many photographers as enchanted scenery.

Overlooking the town center is Monschau Castle, which is also worth a visit. The cobblestone streets between the houses from the 13th century create a special atmosphere. Tip: For a little break, the Café Kaulard right on the historic marketplace is just the thing. Here you get everything that the biker's heart desires on the go.

The bike path on the Rur from Monschau to the Rursee is a bit muddy in rainy weather, but it is beautiful. Often difficult to drive on with normal bikes.

The RurUfer cycle path is a long-distance cycle path that runs from the source in the High Fens near Botrange in Belgium through the Eifel to the mouth of the Maas near Roermond in the Netherlands. You cycle for over 170 kilometers through hilly forests and idyllic landscapes, always following the Rur. Along the way you pass through many villages worth seeing and there is always something interesting to discover. This makes the RurUfer cycle path a very varied cycling experience: netreisetagebuch.de/rurufer-radweg

December 20, 2022,Einruhr am Rursee - Blick auf Einruhr Runde ab Ettelscheid
The last piece was quite difficult uphill. Just managed with my moderate condition. There is a passage about halfway, 2e picture taken when I was already past it then stopped going on normal route. Maybe because of high water level. Don't know what it's like in summer. So I had to climb diagonally along the mountain. It was pretty slippery …

Another great bike tour through the Northern Eifel. After some initial difficulty finding the right path, things went very smoothly from the Belgian border onwards. We passed the Perlenbach Dam to Monschau. A beautiful little town with lots of half-timbered houses and small cobblestone streets. The Rur River is right in the middle of it all. The many small cafes, …

The first 🚴‍♀️ tour of the year was to the Eifel National Park with the eBike Eifel-Adennen group. The weather was perfect 🔆, the scenery was absolutely stunning 💚, the trails were varied, and all in all, it was a fantastic day 😍. We had a lot of fun, thanks to Lars & Conny for organizing it 🤗.

That was actually a pretty nice lap - but it could have been even better if KOMOOT hadn't taken me along paths that don't exist or that you simply can't drive. You could also classify this tour as a normal bike tour, but for a few of the sections of the route an MTB is probably better suited. The mountain …
