Zeventien Bruggen Railway Viaduct

Image-defining railway viaduct above the Pede valley on the Brussels-Ghent railway, built in 1929. The valley did not offer a solid foundation to make a berm, so it was decided to build a viaduct. The viaduct has a length of 600 meters and a height of 18 to 20 meters. The first tender took place after the First World War. The line was opened for express traffic in 1932, in view of the 1935 World Exhibition in Brussels. The viaduct was protected as a monument in 2004. Today the viaduct is being widened from two to four tracks, with maximum preservation of the original view.
