Wilder Ranch Bike Path

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

The Wilder Ranch Bike Path is an entirely paved trail away from the nearby busy highway. The path helps connect Wilder Ranch State Park to Santa Cruz and is open to runners and walkers, too.

Engelsmann Loop Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The first part of Engelsmann Loop is fairly uninteresting, but this relatively recent, windy singletrack segment that is aimed at bypassing a steep and eroded climb on what used to be the fire road continuation of Engelsmann Loop, is quite fun as it lazily meanders while climbing at a gentle rate. Plus, in my book, any new singletrack is a welcome change over the fire road that it replaces.

This is a great place for a rest. Sit down, eat a snack and enjoy the wonderful view.

Twin Oaks Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The narrow singletrack of Twin Oaks Trail flows through an open, rolling meadow. After a short climb and a short coast on some fire roads, it leads to my second favorite trail in the park: Zane Gray Cutoff.

Picnic bench and viewpoint

Highlight • Viewpoint

This overlook is worth the short detour off the trail. It's a great place to stop and enjoy the views. This is a pretty popular spot so be prepared for a crowd.

Wilder Ridge Loop Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Wilder Ridge is a loop on top of the park, with two unconnected legs leading up to it on the east and west sides of the park. This tour only used the eastern leg to descend back to the Hwy 1, picking it up from Twin Oaks trail. Note at the bottom the underpass for Hwy 1 was fenced off, which meant to push the bike through some brush up the road dam and down on the other side. Hopefully the underpass is open again meanwhile, so one can make an actual loop by continuing along Peaseley Gulch past the main Farm center of the park to the beach.
At the beach one can continue back west via
Old Cove Landing Trail komoot.de/highlight/209388
Ohlone Bluff Trail komoot.de/highlight/209386
Then at Four Mile Beach cross Hwy 1, where it climbs up into the park via
Baldwin Loop Trail komoot.de/highlight/209392
The entire loop is here: komoot.de/highlight/209385

Wilder Ranch State Park Entrance

Highlight • Rest Area

A narrow single track turns coastside off the main biketrail away from the highway the becomes wider along a now disused former dirtroad to the ranch houses.

Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

Highlight • Beach

The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is California's oldest surviving amusement park. This 24-acre park was founded in 1907 and offers old-fashioned carnival games and food booths.
