Bootshaus Seekrug

The "Bootshaus Seekrug" restaurant, the official name of the restaurant, is located in the Brandenburg suburb of Potsdam. In the vernacular, the restaurant is also called "Seekrug" for short. The restaurant is located directly on the shore of Lake Templin and can be reached via the An der Pirschheide road. In addition to the 40 seats inside, there are 150 seats on the lake terrace.

The Seekrug was built and operated as an excursion restaurant from 1925. After the Second World War, the entire area was used by the Soviet armed forces. The Potsdam rowers have had unrestricted usage rights since 1950. After a roof fire, the restaurant's original reed roof was replaced by an identical one made of bricks. Within three years, extensions were built for the rowers: changing rooms, two boat sheds and an oar locker. Over time, the sports complex was expanded with strength and gymnastics rooms and another boat hall. All extensions were necessary for the successful Potsdam rowers. This repaid the city of Potsdam with many medals from the Olympics, world and European championships.

Idyllic lakeside spot and swimming area on Templiner See

Getting to Lake Templin is by no means easy, except in the area of the Templin lido, where you have to pay a fee. There's one free spot right next to the entrance and relatively close to the road, but this one is almost unbeatably beautiful, truly idyllic.

In the bay between the lido (on the headland) and the railway embankment, the water is quite shallow, so you can hardly swim properly in the open spots, but you can tread water very well. Be careful: the lake has a few pebbles, but overall it has a wonderfully firm sandy bottom.

One more thing: Between the lido or the junction at the railway embankment and Potsdam, there are no reasonable opportunities to access the lake, and it's also no longer visible from the bike path!
