Roman Circus of Tarragona

Highlight • Historical Site

Very nice and you get a good impression of what happened here in antiquity. You have to be able to manage the exit via the stairs upwards. It goes up quite steeply and you can see through the stairs. Survived with a few beads of sweat. But this is not for people with a fear of heights!

October 14, 2023,🇪🇸 14.10.23 Stadtrundgang Taragona
Today I took a look at the older part of Taragona. Taragona is a port city in Catalonia, northeastern Spain. The Romans quickly recognized the beauty of this piece of earth and conquered it in 218 BC. This Roman influence is hard to miss. Taragona has around 135,000 inhabitants and is also known for the “Castells human pyramids”. This competition …

Tarragona is amazing 🤯

There are many Roman monuments in Tarragona: the amphitheater, the circus, the Roman Forum, the Torre dels Escipions funerary monument, the Arc de Berà triumphal arch, the Mausoleum of Centcelles. I find it fascinating to walk around buildings that are over 2,000 years old, a bit like being in Rome.

We really liked Tarragona (approx. 140,000 inhabitants). We wandered all over the old town and visited lots of Roman monuments.

But what we liked best (as almost always 😂) was visiting the small but lovely market hall. We couldn't resist the temptation and had 100g of the best Iberico ham cut into wafer-thin slices. Just watching the lovingly carried out …
