Larochette Castle

Highlight • Castle

The castle, which offers an impressive view and dominates the townscape, can be visited. The pedestrian road leads directly to it. The AP (Parking Area) also leads a short distance along a paved path. There is also parking just before the castle, meaning that even those with good walking skills can reach it.

Larochette Castle
The castle towers high above the town and dominates the landscape of the picturesque village of Larochette. The castle buildings, which date back to before the 12th century, are situated on a promontory of Luxembourg sandstone and tower about 150 meters above the valley of the White Ernz, a tributary of the Sûre. The oldest part of the castle is the Homburger Haus (House). It fell victim to a major fire in 1565 and is now a ruin. The Kriechinger Haus (House of Kriechinger) is the only building that has been completely restored so far. Temporary art exhibitions bring the historic walls to life, and the surrounding hiking and mountain bike trails offer wonderful views of the entire complex.

View of Larochette Castle

Highlight • Viewpoint

Larochette Castle
The castle overlooks the picturesque village of Larochette, lending it a very special character. The village's first buildings date back to the 11th century and are located on a promontory of Luxembourg sandstone, towering about 50 meters above the valley of the Ernz Blanche, a tributary of the Sûre. A fire in 1565 reduced all the buildings on the site to ruins. The house in Créhange is the only one that was thoroughly restored in the 1980s.

Changing art exhibitions and occasional concerts bring life to the historic walls.
