Hoisdorfer Teiche Nature Reserve

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Hoisdorf ponds are an ensemble of six individual ponds and their riparian zones are protected. The Hoisdorf ponds are located in the southeastern area of the municipality of Hoisdorf. In the west and north they are bordered by the Moorweg/Achtern Diek street and the grounds of the Lichtensee youth home conference center. The Jungfernstieg runs to the east and the village street with the historic village center runs to the southeast.
There is a 4 km long hiking trail around the ponds through beautiful nature, which I can happily recommend.
Unfortunately, you can't see much of the ponds themselves on the way, you can only catch a glimpse from a distance, but the nature reserve around them is very beautiful and also suitable for a short Sunday afternoon walk. Lots of nature and only a few people out and about, even on Sunday.

Stormarn Rail Trail

Highlight • Cycleway

The bike path is great for all types of cyclists.
The ground is good, the route is not steep and the surroundings are beautiful.
Lately the number of cyclists has increased a bit, but usually you don't get in each other's way.

In Lütjensee, the route has been partially rerouted in order to make part of the former cycle path accessible only to pedestrians.

Please actually take the detour here. I also wasn't paying attention the other day and was at first quite brisk, but then after an apology from me, I pointed it out quite nicely.

Trittau Water Mill

Highlight • Monument

In the heart of Trittau's historic center, bordering the Hahnheide nature reserve, lies the watermill with its millpond. It is Trittau's landmark and is now used as a cultural center.

The current mill building was constructed in 1701, but a water-powered grain mill has been documented at this location since the 16th century. However, the mill site itself is much older. Shortly after Trittau Castle was built in 1327, the mills surrounding the castle were likely constructed as well. These included the water-powered grain mill and a sawmill,
which no longer exists.

The mill ceased operation in 1963. Until 1973, the Stoltenberg company ran an agricultural supply business here, after which the municipality of Trittau acquired the building. In 1976, the mill was listed as a cultural monument.

The old railway lines are like cycle highways and surrounded by beautiful nature. A few meters in altitude but many kilometers. Many rest areas invite you to take a break.
