If you're looking for a touring cycling challenge with an incredible payoff, the Fort William Henry – Prospect Mountain Summit loop from Lake George is definitely worth your time. This difficult 13.9-mile (22.4 km) route packs in 1770 feet (539 metres) of elevation gain, taking around 1 hour and 43 minutes. It's a demanding ride best suited for cyclists with very good fitness who crave panoramic views and a true test of endurance.

What to expect on Fort William Henry – Prospect Mountain Summit loop from Lake George

This loop is primarily on paved surfaces, making it ideal for touring bikes, but don't let that fool you; it's a serious climb. The ascent up Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway is a continuous 5.7-mile push, gaining about 1,610 feet with an average gradient of 5.3% and sections hitting 13.3%. While challenging, the reward is immense. You'll pass three scenic overlooks—The Narrows, Lake George, and the Eagle's Nest—before reaching the summit.
