Alte Schmiede and St. Martin's Church, Kraichtal-Münzesheim

Highlight • Historical Site

The "Alte Schmiede" is a beautiful half-timbered house right across from St. Martin's Church. The church was first mentioned in 1273, rebuilt as a Catholic church in 1520, Protestant in 1556 with the demolition of the main altar, plundered completely in 1692 and 1734, renovated in 1745 and rebuilt in its current appearance in 1856-59. The choir rests on the foundations of the previous church. The surviving 12 o'clock bell shows St. Martin on horseback, parting his cloak. It was cast in 1497.

Zeutern Village Highlights

Highlight • Settlement

Zeutern (formerly: Ziuterna) was first mentioned as Villa Ziuterna in the Lorsch Codex; the entry can be dated to 769/770. Initially owned by the Odenheim monastery, the place came to the Lords of Kislau in 1225 and to the Prince-Bishopric of Speyer in 1241. The local noble family von Zeutern can also be traced back to the 13th century, and Rainmar von Zweter may also be attributed to them.

Throughout its history, the place has repeatedly been plagued by wars and epidemics. In 1734 a battle between the French and the Imperials took place on the outskirts.

Viticulture has been documented in the town since 1150. The Waldmühle settlement, on the other hand, served local businesses early on. Zeutern received a railway connection at the end of the 19th century. The place joined the municipality of Ubstadt-Weiher on January 1, 1972.
