Ruins of the Church of San Gregorio

Highlight • Religious Site

Remains of a small church called San Gregorio, currently in ruins and in the abandoned town of Mediaconcha, on the side of the Roman road that runs between Bárcena de Pie de Concha and Somaconcha (at the top of the hill).
It can be entered very carefully, it is not very big but it is eaten by brambles and other types of weeds, It can be entered through its main door (a small arch) and can be accessed by looking where you step and dodging hanging brambles, up to what it was formerly the altar where only the small dome remains over our heads. You can also see a side door with what I suppose was the sacristy but I could not enter through the brambles. Outside, next to the arch and to the right, there is a metal door that leads to the small cemetery from which you can see a couple of graves.

Hermitage of Our Lady of Somaconcha

Highlight • Religious Site

Somaconcha is a tiny village currently depopulated, with no more than five buildings on top of the hill that separates the Pesquera valley from the Pujayo valley with a beautiful panoramic view of both valleys and through which the upper section of the Roman road that ends in Bárcena from Pie de Concha.
The most remarkable building in Somaconcha is its hermitage of Nuestra Señora. It was built in the 16th century in perfect ashlar masonry that we see in the nave, the straight head, the small pinion belfry and single embrasure and the sacristy. The austerity with which it was conceived is minimally broken in the south portal, with a semicircular arch framed by an alfiz that gives the hermitage a distant Renaissance appearance, from the middle of the 16th century.
