Murnau Moss

Highlight • Trail

Moors, wet meadows, unique flora and fauna - the Murnauer Moos is a true pearl of nature. Many endangered animal and plant species find a refuge in the largest contiguous and still preserved moor in Central Europe. This natural area can best be discovered by hiking through the middle of the Murnauer Moos. Hardly any tour in the Blue Land offers more insights into the nature and history of the moor than the popular Moos circular trail.

The approximately 12-kilometer-long hike starts at the hiking car park and the biological station, then leads to the Ramsachkircherl, also known as "Ähndl", and from there the circular trail through the moor area starts. A special highlight on the circular hike is the plank path. At the junction of the Moos circular trail in Murnau/Westenried, you reach this after about a kilometer. On wooden planks you cross the natural moor landscape and have a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains. The boardwalk was designed as a so-called moor nature trail and therefore offers even closer insights into the flora and fauna. For an even more intensive insight into the flora and fauna as well as the history of the Murnauer Moos, we recommend the guided moor hikes.

Ramsach Chapel (Ähndl)

Highlight • Religious Site

This small, baroque church, first mentioned in the 14th century, stands in a place with millennia of religious cultural history. Before Christianization began in the 3rd and 4th centuries through wandering monks preaching, a Celtic cult site is said to have already existed here, and a legend states that the old altar stone and three stone steps date from that time.

Inside the church is a statue of the Madonna, presumably from the year 1300, and an ancient, hand-forged iron bell points to Iro-Scottish monks from the 8th century.

The Ramsachkircherl is open daily (except Monday) from 11 am to 10 pm.

The Murnauer Moos - nature with a difference ❤️

We are always on the move a lot, some things are repeated, but sometimes you discover landscapes that are unique and special. That's how I felt personally with the Murnauer Moos. The hazy weather 🌥️, even if it somewhat obscured the clear view of the numerous mountains, was perfect in terms …
