Augusta Shaft Memorial

Highlight • Historical Site

The former Augustaschacht is now an important memorial that commemorates the crimes during the National Socialist era. This was once the site of the former Ohrbeck labor education camp, the shaft then served as a warehouse. The exhibitions can be explored independently or as part of a guided tour.

You can find more information at gedenkstaetten-augustaschacht-osnabrueck.de/Augustaschacht.

Düte River

Highlight • River

As a tributary of the Hase, the 35 km long Düte, coming from Bad Iburg, runs here in its natural course along Hellern, from where the river continues north. Only at Wersen-Halen does the Düte flow into the Hase. Because of the nocturnal bullhead (fish) that occurs here, the Düte is under protection according to FFH guidelines.

A comfortable cycle path leads you along the still small Hase. Still in the middle of the city and yet it is so quiet and beautiful.

Just find the sign in front of the underpass funny "ringing recommended" :-).
Don't get me wrong - I find it absolutely sensible to ring there. Just didn't know such a sign.

Sandfort Manor

Highlight • Historical Site

On the southeastern edge of Osnabrück, at the foot of the mountain of the same name, lies the remarkable, late medieval moated castle Gut Sandfort, dating from the 14th/15th century. Its main and outer baileys are oriented north-west/south-east, and measure a maximum of 140 x 90 m. The moat is preserved in the east/southeast in the form of a pond. The remaining area was unfortunately filled in around 1860. Today, Gut Sandfort contains the manor house, rebuilt in 1760/65, the gatehouse and gate tower from 1662, and several outbuildings from the 18th century. The listed property was created from the peasant inheritance of Molenseten.

At the recommendation of friends, we went on the Düte tour in the Osnabrück area today. Unfortunately, no recommendation from us at all!
It feels like you're driving halfway through settlements, places, etc.
The Augustaschacht memorial is interesting.

The Düte tour in sunny weather. Arrive from Dissen by bike. The tour is not for people from flatland Tyrol. There are a few climbs to be overcome. For me, as someone with bad knees, it's not a leisurely ride, even with a padelec. But where there is an up, there is always a down. But why is the tour …

Düte bike tour, the one with the yellow and red symbol, through the Osnabrück region. I found it beautiful, a challenge in parts without an e-bike. But with a motor it was no problem. A small drawback was that the signs were sometimes very obscured or currently hidden behind bushes. But if you pay a little attention to the route …

The Duete Tour starts in Osnabrück. Along the Hase it goes into the green surroundings without any major climbs. Then the Teutoburg Forest awaits you with its great distant views and corresponding elevation profile. Therefore, I recommend doing the tour with an e-bike.

The Düte Tour in my version offers a bit of everything: Beautiful bike paths but also challenging forest paths and slopes, great landscapes, beautiful views, lots of nature and the beautiful old town of Osnabrück. All in all a very nice tour.
