Old Town of Obernburg am Main

Highlight • Settlement

Super beautiful, interesting old town that has many highlights to look at. You can also drink good coffee. A coffee break is almost mandatory for racing cyclists.

The ascent is almost always in the sun - just before you head into the forest, you have a beautiful view of the valley over your shoulder.

Wind Turbines of the Radheim Alps

Highlight • Monument

They're quite large wind turbines. They can be seen from afar.

Alpine Bend on Radheimer Berg

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

The legendary Radheimer Ramp lets the lactate shoot up in the leg muscles and the heart rate skyrockets at a little over 2 km. The reason for this is the incline percentages on the way up.

It begins very slowly, shortly after the tranquil town of Radheim. The only way to tell at first that it's going slightly uphill is to look at the speedometer. The first time I even thought I'd gotten a flat tire.
What can hardly be seen with the naked eye quickly leads to a beautiful and winding S-curve - the already mentioned Alpenkehre - with a maximum of a little over 10%. Once you have conquered this, you can take a breather on the short plateau for a few turns of the crank before, after the right-hand bend, you continue up a long ramp with an average of 6-9%.

If you have also mastered this, the most relaxed section of the Radheimer ramp follows. The area only accounts for 4% and feels almost like a flat stage after the previous gradient percentages, before it gets a little steeper again in the upper, shady part.

Anyone who, like me, is often on the hunt for a new personal best should put "all-in" in all areas of this highlight and put a lot of pressure on the chain. 🥇

To mention would be the bad and repaired asphalt. On the way up, it is less important than on the rapid descent into the valley. Those on the way down should always drive with foresight when looking for the ideal line and keep an eye on ruts and the many cracks in the asphalt.

I'm already looking forward to my next visit to this highlight when it says again: "The Return of the Radheimer Ramp" ☝🏻😂

Witches' Tower, Babenhausen

Highlight • Historical Site

The Witches' Tower is the landmark of Babenhausen. It is located in the old town, which is well worth seeing, with remains of the former city wall and beautiful half-timbered houses.
The Witches' Tower served as a prison in the late Middle Ages. Torture is said to have taken place here, some of which even led to death. There was no evidence of witch burning anywhere in the city, but at least one pillory is said to have been attached to the witch tower.
