Terrace with a view of Lake Albano

Highlight • Viewpoint

This viewpoint is located next to the Carabinieri station. From here you can enjoy a spectacular view of the lake. Looking at it from above, the shape of the crater of the volcano that gave rise to the lake is clearly evident, probably born following five different eruptions (hence the more oval shape compared to other lakes of volcanic origin). On the opposite side of the viewpoint stands Monte Cavo, the ancient Mons Albanus, the highest peak of the Alban Hills.

Section of path overlooking Lake Albano with a unique view! Recommended in the early morning with the sun behind you. Strongly not recommended for those suffering from vertigo and children given the path just over 1 meter wide, without protections and with an overhang of more than 50 meters below.

There are no opening and closing times, I recommend making the route in good weather conditions. You can reach the caves from via dei cappuccini.

Tempesta Spring

Highlight • Natural Monument

This large fountain is located in one of the main junctions of the trail system of the Colli Albani park. It is a seasonal source so the presence of water is not guaranteed all year round. It is a very suggestive place to immerse yourself in nature, despite being just a few steps from Via dei Laghi.

High trail in the woods

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

There are several paths that run along the southern ridge of the crater of Lake Albano. This is the one that remains highest and closest to the summit road of Albano Laziale. The surface is beaten and you can walk without much effort. In summer the branches of the trees hide the view of the lake while in winter you can see it through the bare branches. Walking from Albano Laziale in the direction of Via dei Laghi (eastwards) you reach some interesting little caves, the Palazzolo caves. A nice excursion to do with the family.

September 5, 2021,Hike by train – From Albano Laziale to Nemi – Parco Regionale dei Castelli Romani – Trail Inspection (Nature of Sal)
A classic hiking trail, with beautiful views over two vulcanic lakes and the possibility to enjoy some nice food in Nemi.
April 5, 2025,Albano - Nemi
Attention! After passing the Palazzolo caves, on the right there is a very high fence wall and a building. There the path ends (there is a metal fence) and a path goes down to the left, for about 100 meters. Then the path continues to the left, while the one on the right IS NOT PASSABLE. On a tree there …

After leaving the car near the restaurant 'le fratte ignoranti', take the path that winds through the woods. In the initial part you can enjoy the view of Lake Albano, in particular from Pentima della Vecchiaccia, and then continue in the direction of Fontan Tempesta, now without water.
