History of the Lasa Marble Vein
The milestones along the Via Claudia Augusta Roman road were already made of Lasa marble in ancient times, and in the Middle Ages the white stone from Nördersberg in Vinschgau was used for portals, heraldic stones and ornaments, especially in Vinschgau castles. The marble vein, which was temporarily forgotten, was rediscovered in the 19th century. Since then Lasa marble has been quarried again in the Jennwand and Weißwasser quarries. Today, Lasa marble and marble from the Covelano quarry are mainly used in construction, architecture and art. In order to make the extremely versatile stone interesting for artists, the vocational school for stone processing was founded in Lasa in 1982.

The wetland was designated as a biotope in 1983 and is under nature protection. Tschengls comes from the late Latin "masis cengiles" - which means "Zinshöfe".

Highlight • Rest Area

The large warehouse with marble blocks is impressive. Some of the transport facilities, with which the marble blocks are transported down into the valley, mostly automatically, can be seen on the southern slope.
