The Liberation Hall is an extremely impressive monument on the Michelsberg above the town of Kelheim. On the Altmühlradwanderweg you have a nice view.

If you have never been up there, you should plan a detour here - with the 34 white marble victory goddesses inside, it is absolutely worth seeing!

Kelheim Old Town

Highlight • Settlement

The fountain between the New Town Hall and the Sparkasse symbolizes the confluence of the Danube, Altmühl and Canal. As a replica of Munich's patrona Bavariae, councilor Jakob Mayr had the approx. 7 m high Marian column built in 1700.

View of Kelheim's city gates

Highlight • Viewpoint

You will see the Altmühltor, the Donautor and the Mittertor, all of which were built in the middle of the 13th century.

In front of the Altmühltor there was a spacious gatehouse, which was demolished in May 1875. This created a spacious space between the gate and the former bridge over the Altmühl. The Mittertor is the western entrance gate to Kelheim's old town and part of the former city fortifications. On its north side, the Donautor bears the first city coat of arms with the city gate and the Bavarian Wecken and, like the Altmühl- and Donautor, allows entry into the old town.

From the 15th century, the Donautor was the seat of the paving duties. If you drive along the Danube Cycle Path, Kelheim is well worth a visit.

Kuchlbauer’s Bierwelt

Highlight • Monument

The Kuchlbauer brewery has created something very special here, as "Kuchlbauer's Bierwelt" brings beer and art into harmony. During a guided tour, you can not only visit the brewery, but also what is probably the last building by the famous artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

The Kuchlbauer Tower was built according to the artist's designs. For him, straight lines were something godless, and thus a beautiful 35-meter-high tower was created that captivates every viewer.

During a brewery tour, you will not only be introduced to the art of brewing, but also gain insights into the lives of the legendary wheat beer dwarves or into the secret of the Last Supper. A tour always ends with a beer tasting.
