Orpierre

Highlight • Settlement

Orpierre has two camp sites: "Les Princes d'Orange" which is a bit deluxe with swimming pool and chalets and a "family and kids" vibe to it. "Les Noyers" just next to it (and sharing the same reception office) is much cheaper, with very basic facilities (but perfectly clean and agreeable, more laid back and a "climbing / hiking / mountain-biking" vibe.
Orpierre also has its own municipal swimming pool.
Another very nice camp-site is "Les Catoyes" about 4km up the road towards Laborel. Live bands on Monday evenings in the summer!

The Col de Saint-Jean climbs between the Herc and Chabre mountains with slopes often approaching 7% over 5.3 kilometers from Laborel on the northern slope. It is located at an altitude of 1,159 meters in the Baronnies massif. From the pass, you benefit from beautiful and wide views of the surrounding area.

Méouge Gorge!!

Highlight • Gorge

Road a bit busy but beautiful. I hope things will change since they ban car parking along the gorges during the summer (paying shuttles).

Gorges de la Méouge

Highlight • Gorge

The Méouge gorges are a place famous for the quality of its waters and the grandeur of this exceptional site. They are classified as a biological reserve and represent a true jewel for the department.
At its bottom, the Méouge becomes a grandiose spectacle, with its natural slides, its rocks. After the waterfall, basins carved into the rock serve as natural pools and delight young and old alike.

Gorges de la Méouge

Highlight • Gorge

The Méouge gorges, classified as a biological reserve, connect Drôme Provençale and Hautes-Alpes, in the heart of the Baronnies Provençales Regional Natural Park.

The small road which crosses them winds for around 10 kilometers, between Châteauneuf-de-Chabre and Barret-sur-Méouge. The turquoise waters of the Méouge are perfect for taking a splash!

Méouge Valley

Highlight • Other

The Gorges of the Meouge River (or in French « Gorges de la Méouge ») are an exceptional natural site, classified in the European Natura 2000 network intended to protect the most precious natural environments. They are located between Provence and the Alps, in the heart of the regional natural park of the Provençal Baronnies, 5 km southwest of Laragne, near Sisteron. Between the villages of Barret sur Méouge and Châteauneuf de Chabre, the road winds for about ten kilometers along the Meouge stream, between the limestone rock walls, creating sumptuous landscapes a bit like the Verdon gorges! The turquoise stream cascades down, forming small natural pools and smooth rock beaches, at the bottom of deep, green gorges, bathed in the gentle heat and light of Provence. The place has been awarded the "Wonder" of the Hautes Alpes department, classified as a "biological reserve", this treasure of the Sisteron Buëch area is very famous for bathing in the stream or hiking on the numerous paths.
