Großensiel Lower Lighthouse

Highlight • Monument

Grossensiel lighthouse
The lower light with a height of 17 m is a white, three-legged lattice beacon with a gallery and a green copper dome roof. It is located south of Nordenham, just before the Grossensiel sluice lock. The tower was built in 1897/98 and initially served as Einswarden front light a few kilometers further north. In 1914 it was moved to its present location (source: nordseejadeweser.de/poi/glühturm-grossensiel).
+++From here you can go to the nearest bank and enjoy the harbor view
+++or go directly to the marina where the N'ham sports boat clubs have their yachts docked. Terrific at sunset.

Weser Beach Nordenham

Highlight (Segment) • Beach

Here you can walk from Großensiel harbor towards Union Pier or vice versa. Whether on the beach, in front of or behind the seawall, you're guaranteed a coastal atmosphere and a fresh breeze. Alternatively, you can sit in the sand or on a bench, listen to the waves, or watch the ships go by.

The Docker 2004

Donated by Helmut Werner (*26.3.48 +5.10.2009), CEO of Rhenus Midgard and citizen of Nordenham.

Inspired by the statement by Helmut Werner, "Nordenham was built on the backs of dock workers", the sculptor Anne Wagenfeld (Butjadingen *5.3.48 +24.4.2016) created a sculpture that puts the actual dock worker in the context of space and time places, in the development of man and nature, of generations and ages (heads, stairs, shells).
The dockworker looks at the natural deep-sea port, which made it possible to export Butjadinger cattle to England in the early days of steam navigation. The railway connection in 1875 allowed oil to be imported from America and grain from Russia. From 1890 to 1897, express steamers operated by the Norddeutscher Lloyd shipping company brought hundreds of thousands of emigrants from here to America. The port was later privatized and the newly settled industrial companies - fisheries, Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke, Zinkhütte and Friedrichswerft - built their own port facilities. Everyone benefited from the favorable location on the deep water of the Weser estuary. (You can find out more about this at the Museum Nordenham). (Source: mk-nordenham.de/beitraege, Helmut Klug).

Unfortunately, in my opinion, the place is not worth mentioning. I would have imagined the banks of the Weser to be much nicer.
