Landgrave Monument

The Landgrave Column - a red sandstone column on a stepped plinth and crowned by a ball - was originally erected on the right in front of the castle portal of Bad Homburg Castle on the occasion of Landgrave Friedrich V's 50th anniversary in government and was inaugurated on January 30, 1816. In 1835, his son Landgrave Ludwig arranged for the column to be moved from its original location in the palace gardens to the Great Fir Forest. After it increasingly weathered there over time, it was restored in 1967. In 1988 it was returned to the palace gardens and this copy was put up in 2011.
