Reuth Castle

Highlight • Castle

The castle was first mentioned in 1337 as a property of the Trautenberg family. The property passed to Georg Friedrich von Unruh through marriage in 1602 and passed to the related Sparnecker family. The castle brewery was founded in 1742 during the time of the von Sparneck family in Reuth (1628-1744). From the tradition of brewing rights in the form of a house brewery, a commercial operation was established in 1742. The barons of Reitzenstein bought the Hofmark Reuth in 1772 and exercised land ownership and jurisdiction until 1848.

In 1896, clergyman Andreas Schiffmann, a native of Mitterteich, donated this Marian column to the city. The priest was a professor at the Latin school in Haßfurt. The monument is one of the city's most prominent landmarks. The statue is modeled on the Patrona Bavariae in Munich.

St. Jakob Church, Mitterteich

Highlight • Religious Site

The church, consecrated to St. James the Elder and St. Anna, was built between 1890 and 1893 according to plans by Carl Hocheder after three previous buildings had burned down in the same place. The church tower is the city's landmark and was built in 1606, making it the oldest building in Mitterteich.

Glass Fountain Mitterteich

Highlight • Monument

When the station square was redesigned in 1985, a work of art was to be used to beautify the square. Josef Wolf designed a fountain made of glass tubes. It consists of a basin paved with granite stones. The Schott company provided the glass tubes. They are arranged in tiers. The water flows from bottom to top in the tubes. The symbolic figure of a glassblower sits enthroned on the highest glass tube. A grid made of stainless steel is intended to artistically reinforce the work and provide protection. The artist wanted to use the materials to create a connection to modern industry.
