High Beach Viewpoint, Epping Forest

Highlight • Parking

Stop by this large, grassy clearing in Epping Forest for excellent views of the countryside beyond London and the M25.

There's a pub serving food here (The Kings Oak), and usually an ice cream van. There's also public toilets with a water tap outside which is really handy for top-ups on hot days!

High Beech Tea Hut

Highlight • Forest

High Beech Tea hut is a great place to hang out, drink excellent (cheap) tea and hearty bread pudding, and chat with other cyclists. Tends to be a lot of MTBers up there, but everyone is friendly. It's always funny to see someone spattered in mud emerge from the forest!

The tea is excellent and on a sunny day there's a lovely view of the forest and beyond, and lots of dog walkers etc. Well worth a stop before your final run back (all downhill!) back to London

Kings Oak Restaurant, Epping Forest

Highlight • Restaurant

Possible to get some refreshments here. Burgers and hotdogs, cold drinks or coffee. Just about food- don't expect mind-blowing experience. It gives you calories but that's it. Well price is not more than £5 so can't really complain. Hehe

Grimston's Oak (The Monarch of the Forest)

Highlight • Natural Monument

Also known as 'The Monarch of the Forest', Grimston's Oak is estimated to be around 350 years old. It is named after a cricketer, Robert Grimston who played in the 19th century, but is sometimes called Bedford's Oak after JT Bedford in recognition of his work to save Epping Forest in the 1870s.

Connaught Water

Highlight • Trail

Close to Chingford, within easy running distance, is Connaught Water. There's a circular trail around the perimeter of the lake which is abundant with wildlife, especially during the colder months when ducks and geese overwinter on the lake.
