Offa's Dyke Path — Wye Valley Section

Highlight • Historical Site

Small section along the Offas Dyke path. Right next to the historic Dyke.
This section is absolutely stunning (in my view, at least!) The dyke is clearly visible (on your right, if you're coming down from the Devils Pulpit, and vice versa).
It is within some absolutely stunning woodland, and you've got spectacular views of the wye valley nearby; not to mention the Devils Pulpit itself.

Devil's Pulpit — View of Tintern Abbey

Highlight • Viewpoint

From Devil’s Pulpit, you're afforded a fantastic view over the ruins of Tintern Abbey, a gothic masterpiece founded in 1131 by Cistercian monks. According to legend, the Devil preached from this spot to tempt the monks to desert their order.

View of Tintern Abbey

Highlight • Historical Site

From the other side of the River Wye it is possible to glimpse the magical 12th Century Tintern Abbey through the trees. Tintern is one of the most spectacular monastic ruins in Wales, even 500 years after its dissolution. However, if you want to take a close look, you'll need to cross the river a kilometre or so further north.

Brockweir Village and Old Monks' Hall

Highlight • River

Brockweir is a small, very quaint village located just north of Tintern. It has a surprisingly large number of listed buildings in its midst, including the chapel, bridge, and post office, to name but a few. The piece de resistance, however, is the Monks Hall, often referred to as 'The Malt House'. It's a beautiful old building and is believed to date back to the 14th century. It is one of the oldest houses in the Wye Valley and has been painstakingly renovated.

Brockweir Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

Brockweir Bridge was built in 1906, and is an iron, Grade II listed structure. Recently renovated, it looks much more attractive with a fresh coat of paint, and the views of the River Wye from it, are superb.

River Wye and Wye Valley Walk

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Wye Valley Walk is marked out by circular yellow waymark arrows, finger posts, and signs showing the path's logo, a leaping salmon. Most of the route follows Public Rights of Way. Some parts are permissive paths where owners have agreed for them to be used.

The route passes through Chepstow, the Wye Valley AONB, Tintern, Monmouth, Ross-on-Wye, Symonds Yat, Hereford, Hay-on-Wye, Builth Wells, Rhayader, and Llangurig to Plynlimon.

The route of the Wye Valley Walk can be broken into 17 stages, though the entire walk is often walked in 7 day-length sections from Chepstow to Plynlimon, or vice versa.

St Briavels (pronounced Brevels, once known as 'Ledenia Parva' (Little Lydney), is a medium-sized village and civil parish in the Royal Forest of Dean in west Gloucestershire, England; close to the England-Wales border, and 5 miles (8 km) south of Coleford. It stands almost 800 feet (240 m) above sea level on the edge of a limestone plateau above the valley of the River Wye, above an ancient meander of the river. To the west, Cinder Hill drops off sharply into the valley. It is sheltered behind the crumbling walls of the 12th century St Briavels Castle.
