Quite unusual to find a Buddhist Temple in such a location, but there it is! According to Samye Ling's website, the Buddhist centre here was founded in 1967, and was the first Tibetan Buddhist Centre to be established in the West.

You can visit for free all year round; there is also the Tea Room, and even overnight accommodation, should you like to stay the night at a special place such as this!

Langholm Bridge

Highlight • Monument

Langholm Bridge is an elegant Georgian three-arched bridge spanning the River Esk and linking the town of Langholm with Eskdalemuir

It’s notable for being one of the first masonry projects worked on by the young Thomas Telford.

Langholm, known locally as 'Muckle Toon', is a pretty border town that sits on the River Esk. Loads of cafes and pubs to refuel. As the town sits in a valley, between 4 hills, you might want to think about refuelling, as you're likely going to be climbing out!

Wauchope Water

Highlight • River

Lovely spot down by the river, plenty of birds singing in the trees. Ideal spot for a picnic.

Lockerbie is a bustling market town and a great example of a Scottish Borders town. Forever associated with the Lockerbie disaster, it's still a great place to stop in one of the many cafes or pubs for refreshment.
