Loch Kinord

Highlight • Viewpoint

Loch Kinord is a small and shallow freshwater loch within the Muir of Dinnet national nature reserve. The shallow depth means that light penetrates to the loch floor and it's therefore rich in plant species. Water lilies, reeds, sedges and bullrushes fringe the loch which creates good habitat for fish and water birds.
The path that skirts the lochs perimeter is well maintained and provides a good obvious and easily navigable but short bike loop. If you want to go further there are endless possibilities to extend your ride by heading north up into the Cairngorms or joining the Deeside Way to the south.

Cambus o'May Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

There are several of these white bridges constructed along the Dee, this being the most accessible to visit. There is a parking area just of the road, or it would be hard to miss if you were walking the Deeside way towards Ballater.
The bridge was damaged in storms but has since been repaired. Usually the far side gate is locked, meaning it is not usable for planning a walk where this would be used as a crossing.

Cambus o' May Bridge

Highlight • Viewpoint

This bridge has a gate at both ends. It's necessary to lift bikes over or around the gates - not easy with heavy ebikes. These gates are not friendly to anyone other than walkers. Probably impassible to wheelchairs.

May 11, 2025,Gravel loop from Cambus o'May
An short but varied ride starting and finishing at Cambus o'May forest car park. Mostly good surfaces but rough and bouldery around a section at Loch Kinord and at Clarack Loch, where you'll probably need to push for a few hundred metres. Also includes one of the best downhill runs to be found locally. An ideal route for an evening …
